AndratxAndratx, in the west of Mallorca, is one of the mu nicipalities visited by most tourists on the island but in spite of this its indisputable charm makes it ~ quiet place where time seems to pass apart from the hustle and bustle. The district lies on the last foothills of the Serra de Tramuntana. where the mountains are much lower, and it is a coastal mu nicipality dotted with small coves and dizzy cliffs. Its most im portant towns are Andratx, Port d'Andratx, Sant Elm, S'Arrac6 Camp de Mar, and it also contains the protected areas of Lo Trapa and the mysterious island of Sa Dragonera, a veritable dormant dragon which seems to guard the coast. The origins of the village of Andratx go back to the year 125C B.C., and Greeks and Romans left different vestiges of their cultures in the area, some of which are conserved in the Town Hall. The oldest area of the town is El Pantaleu, with its steep, nar row streets. Outstanding features are the parish church ol Santa Maria (18th century) and the crosses that marked the former boundaries of the town - S'Abeurador, in the Placa d'Es Pou, and S'Ullastre, in Carrer de Catalunya.
